"Am I Gone? Is that for real?"

As Keryn and I stood in the parking lot of a Walgreens in Buffalo, she pointed across the street. "Does that say 'am I gone' funeral home? Is that for real?"

It did, and out came my trusty Elph. Amigone Funeral Home, apparently a chain around these parts. I can’t help but chuckle looking at this picture, which is why I’m sharing it with you today.

I struggle mightily with the intersection of levity and death, and always have, feeling a certain discomfort at dark humor. Apparently Western New Yorkers don’t share that struggle.

My father passed away last September of 2006, the family called Amigone for prices and prices only and told them that we would get back to them if we decided to go with Amigone. Well, we never called them back and regardless, they picked up my father from the hospital WITHOUT OUR CONSENT! We met with Paul Amigone (owner) and he told us there was nothing that he was going to do for their MISTAKE! They are a cold hearted company and all they care about is getting your money! This matter is not over with them yet. They caused so much grief to our family, but he didn't care!

I will pass on to everyone about what happened with AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME! I will tell them how they mishandled your father.
At 6:47 AM, Anonymous said...: I realize that you are not looking for compensation, however, was there an additional charge for transporting your beloved father from Am-I-Gone to the proper funeral home? If there was, I would talk to your lawyer about going after that amount, plus interest.

How dispassionate of them in your families time of most sincere need. I hope that things are resolved in this matter for you quickly and correctly.
